CSI issues licenses for the reproduction right to online music services making available musical content represented by CSI in Canada.
CSI administers the Online Music Service Tariff certified by the Canadian Copyright Board and, to be duly licensed, online music services wishing to operate in Canada must report content and sales activity to CSI in accordance to the Tariff’s provisions.
Under the current tariff, an Online Music Service is defined as a service that delivers streams or limited downloads to subscribers or permanent downloads to consumers, other than a service that offers only streams in which the file is selected by the service, which can only be listened to at a time chosen by the service and for which no advanced play list is published.
For any information regarding the requirements of the tariff, including the applicable royalty rates, administrative provisions and definition of terms, please refer to the Online Music Service Tariff available here: http://www.cb-cda.gc.ca/tariffs-tarifs/certified-homologues/2012/Tarif-CMRRA-SODRAC.pdf
If you have any questions regarding CSI’s Online Music Services Tariff, or intend to make CSI’s repertoire available online by a product offering that differs from that stated in the tariff, please write to us at csi@cmrrasodrac.ca for licensing information.
